Teresa's take on Lifting, Healthy Eating and Loving Life

2nd Annual Golden Champion Health and Fitness Award

1 min read

I’m a little late getting this post put together. We had some technical issues. I have posted the video on facebook, but here is some background. The winner of my Second Annual Golden Champion Health and Fitness award went to 89 year old Ken Goad.

I met Ken through NASA powerlifting. He started lifting weights many years ago when his wife became ill because he wanted to have the strength to move her around when she needed help. He started competing, and his wife would travel with him to meets. Powerlifting was something she loved watching her husband do, and every meet was a very social event for her. She has since passed, and although he is heartbroken, he continues his powerlifting journey.

Ken inspires me so much. He does not let his age affect his sport. He adjusts his diet and his training, and is still making strength gains. He is one of the only people to compete in three different weight classes in his division, or any division! He has many National records, and breaks records nearly every meet. I love every minute I get to spend with Ken, and I hope he has many more meets! Below is an interview. Boy has he had an interesting life! Take the time to watch.

Let me know what you think!
